Organising theory training

How to organise theory training in a flight school

Good organisation of flight school theory training begins with a practical question: what should the student be able to do after this lesson? Use it to connect the syllabus, resources, exercises and assessment. The method works for groups and for students progressing at different speeds, helping instructors share a framework without making every lesson identical.

Define objectives and lesson sequence

For each subject, list topics, prerequisites and an observable final assessment. Order lessons so that each topic builds on the previous one. Allow time for questions and revision rather than filling every meeting with new content. Put course, subject, instructor, location and times in the schedule: students and administration should understand the plan without reconstructing it from separate messages.

Lessons and training

Prepare resources before the meeting

Attach clearly named documents to the course and subject. When a lesson requires advance preparation, assign a briefing and questions checking its essential concepts. Distinguish general reference material from preparation required for a particular meeting. That distinction also improves feedback: instructors know where to start, while students know what to revise before arriving at the school.

Lessons and training

Choose an assessment that fits the objective

A quick test checks revision; a subject test examines one part of the syllabus; a full practice exam exercises exam management. Do not use the same mode in every situation. Decide which results you want to observe before setting time and question counts. Afterwards, ask students to revisit at least one significant error and explain why their chosen answer was incorrect.

Practice exams

Turn results into a revision plan

Review each student’s progress periodically. Look for persistent errors, subjects with little practice and long gaps between attempts. Assign a specific task: a resource, selected topics and a new assessment. Check the following week whether the difficulty has decreased. A history is valuable not because it produces more charts, but because it supports the next teaching intervention with better, comparable information.

Share a framework between instructors

Record attendance, completed objectives and outstanding tasks, keeping internal notes for staff. When instructors change, the learning pathway should remain understandable. In AvioDesk you can try materials, lessons, advance preparation and results in one portal. To evaluate it, follow a complete case in the demo: assign a resource, review the assessment and decide the next revision task. This is more meaningful than checking a feature list alone.
